9:23 pm - looooong post coming up
i have an enormous amount of work to do by now, but can't put myself to it yet. i'm still feeling too restless, but i think that Something For Kate and a short recollection of about 12 days worth of stuff for you all will be good therapy...

most excellent days!

Suz and I got to spend so much quality time together, it just made everything so much better. From the big things (finally being with her again, after all this time, and getting to be with her all the time) way down to the tiniest of things (real breakfast, with baguettes, or real dinners, with real flavour) that just make life so much more pleasant. We saw an enormous amount of things, such as:
- all of the Pacific Coast Highway, from Santa Monica through Malibu, Big Sur. Monterey, all wonderful places. We got to see it all in glorious sunlight too, because even though the sun would set at a little past 5pm, we'd be driving as early as 8-9 am. Driving from LA to San Francisco was pretty gruelling in terms of distance, it sucked that I couldn't drive, and it was rough on Suza to go from not driving at all to driving 6+ hours a day in a completely alien environment. There were some parts on our trip that I felt bad for putting her through, like having to navigate through downtown SF at night, in the rain, after a full day of driving. Still, we got everywhere we wanted to go.
- San Francisco. We saw all of it, except Alcatraz (50+ dollars for a guided tour. 1: I hate guided tours with a passion. 2: 50 bucks? that's just ridiculous. anyway). We drove into the city on a dark evening, the sky shedding water. Our idea was to get across the Golden Gate, and take a ferry to this tiny island, Angel Island, which had campsites (we brought a tent, thinking that we'd camp out). When we finally made our way through rushhour traffic, it turns out that the ferry doesn't go more than 4 times a day, and not after 4pm... Slight pang of despair, since we had no idea where to go otherwise, and we were not about to drive back into that traffic hell, not in this darkness and rainyness. Eventually we struck upon a motel by the Highway, which surprised us by being not crap at all.
The next day we woke up early, and a beautiful day it was indeed. We drove over the Golden Gate bridge again, this time taking in its beauty. Its not an overrated landmark at all, it is a truly majestic monument. We drove to the Legion of Honor Museum (made famous by Vertigo as the museum Kim Novak visits repeatedly), where we strolled in a lovele park right at the edge of the city, the Golden Gate on one side, and the Pacific on the other. The place was so calm, since it was Sunday morning, and it was great. Perhaps the highlight of the trip, already.
The rest of the day we toured the city on our accord. Fisherman's Wharf (too touristy), Chinatown (nice but weird, i let Suz try some boba), Lombard Street (so damn steep), a cable car (very touristy, but a lot of fun, and a great way to really come to respect the hilly nature of the city without hurting the leg muscles too much), and to finish it off, the California Academy of Sciences (unfortunately not containing a T-Rex skeleton, but it did have some cool fish. and penguins. and an exhibit dedicated to Far Side comics).
We stayed in this backpacker hotel, an ex-brothel, right by the Hustler Club, and other establishments of questionable reputation. The extended surroundings were even better, as the hotel was right downtown. We had a most excellent dinner accompanied by live jazz, and walked around the city some more.
The next morning my despisal of backpackers got reaffirmed by the communal breakfast room, in the old brothel's ballroom. A pile of clothes in one corner, free for anyone to pick from. The token Crazy Guy, hammering randomly on the piano as out of tune as possible with the music alreday playing. Sure, I'm sure it's fun to freely explore the world like that, but why is that for these people not compatible with a lifestyle that maintains a shred of human dignity? Like, for example, showering.
We walked around the Golden Gate Park a bit, and got some albums (me, I replaced my CD-Rs of Postal Service and REM's Automatic For The People with real ones), and checked out the "free-spirited neighbourhood". It seems that the 'anti-corporate', 'anti-capitalist' ideas had degenerated slightly into the 'anti-doing anything really', as the number of voluntary drop-outs of society was enormous. I consider myself far more liberal than republican, but I still had the urge to tell these people to wake up, get a job, and stop slumming it. But it's their own choice I guess, and they don't force themselves upon you except to ask for money...
We drove back south again that day, and went camping.
So cold. so cold.
So unbelievably cold.
However, the campground did have a jacuzzi, so I don't regret the idea. But everything related to the tent was kinda, well, plain crappy. It was just so cold...
A big long driving day brought us close to LA, which we crossed during rush hour to go to Disneyland. We left real early, at 8am, and promptly got stuck in traffic as soon as we hit the LA County line (about 25 minutes after getting into the car). It would suck to do it every day, but we were in a good mood, and listened to a hilarious discussion on K-ROQ, about the specifics of cheating (a judge had ruled that adultery had to include penetration, which would rule out women cheating on their men with other women), and after about an hour or so, we had gotten to Downtown, which meant we were now in the privileged position of driving OUT of the city, always the quietest way to go in the morning.
In Disneyland, it was very quiet, and we got to do every single ride we wanted to do. Rain was announced, but it only occurred whenever we'd be inside somewhere, and we never had to wait more than 15 minutes. The rollercoasters were all closed, shitty, but Star Tours was still just as excellent, as was Pirates of the Caribbean, the Matterhorn (crazy bobsleds), and Indiana Jones (a ride in this crazy bouncing car, no flips or loops or anything, but still a 3-minute non-stop thrill).
The park is really small, much smaller than Euro Disney, smaller than the Efteling even. Also, it can't even come close to the Efteling in terms of sheer awesomeness, so all us Dutchies can sleep safe and sound, knowing we have the best theme park on the Northern Hemisphere (any good ones in the South, Kelvin?).
We took a break for 2 days, to get our energy back, do some homework and such, and catch Matrix Revolutions (it was alright, not as bad as Reloaded, but it didn't really instill much amazement. Seeing it on an IMAX screen was kick-ass, though), and then went to LA for the extended weekend, Saturday to Monday. We had a hotel in Beverly Hills, and pretended to be all rich for a weekend. We were asked if we were in town for the American Music Awards, prompting Suz to claim that we were definitely "rich-ass famous motherfuckers". Fo sho.
Beverly Hills was nice, so was Rodeo Drive. Not so nice were Hollywood and Sunset Blvds, which were both rather run-down and manky. We saw the Walk of Fame and the handprints and such, but every time we'd look up the distinct absence of class and glamour in this area was painfully apparent. I noticed that the only non-shabby places in LA were those with big parking lots, shopping centres and such. The car rules here, mostly for ill.
We had one hip and one fancy dinner, took photos of us with the most obvious of all landmarks, the Hollywood sign, and basically walked enormous distances, and had a great time.

Which made it suck to put my lovely Suza back on a plane... We had 12 fantastic days together, and now it feels like something is missing. In 6 weeks I will be back, thankfully, and then merriment and rejoicing will ensue again. For the meantime, I can treasure our wonderful holiday here...

i was gonna ask jayme how to do that crazy thing which makes the post a link instead of a big long swathe of text, to not screw up all y'all's friends pages, but he went to soccer, so i'm just gonna post it like this.

12:04 am - oh yeah!
suzanne is heading to the airport right at this very moment.
in two and a half hours her plane will take off.
at 13:35 she will arrive at LAX.
i have a ride to the airport.
i am SO EXCITED!

seriously, i can't do anything right now except be super happy and super hyped up and excited. it's going to be the abso-freakin-lutely best time this entire year, i don't care what happened before, it all pales in comparison to finally having suzanne with me again. i can't wait i can't wait i can't wait!

it feels so good to love her so incredibly much, and i am not at all afraid to say it. i don't see how i'd ever have to hold back on saying something which is so intrinsically good...

12:37 am - too lazy to update
it's not that I've forgotten this LJ, but I just don't feel like it. I'll try a little bit...

Halloween was alright, not too hot. I was going to go to a parade in West Hollywood with George, but huge rains and horrendous traffic pretty much killed that. We cruised around Hollywood, checking out houses in Bel Air, driving along Sunset Boulevard and other legendary places. Most of these legendary places looked pretty run-down, and I was immensely pleased to see that Bel Air houses were barely on par with 't Gooi...
I had to navigate through LA, since George had no idea, so based on nothing but my natural sense of direction, and a general idea of how LA should be, I managed to cruise us right out of the city and onto the freeway. It was too much driving to be considered a genuinely fun night. Oh well. Stupid freakin' rain.

Besides that, I'm focusing on getting my shit done before Suz comes over. Thursday's the big day, I can't wait, but before that I have to focus on my 3 mid-terms. So that's pretty much it. I'm sure cool shit has happened since I last updated, but I'm too lazy to write a long story at the moment.

1:26 am - delay! delay! delay!
my last stand before i finish up my Global Cultures essay... updating my LJ for a change.
What I'm writing about is actually pretty cool, hip hop and capitalism, how the spirit of hip hop is ruthlessly stolen and whored out by big, white corporations. It gives the black man on the inside a chance to cry out, so I crank up my NWA and my Public Enemy (and thanks to the Kill Bill soundtrack, also my RZA) and give 'em hell.
But not yet.
It's not tomorrow morning yet, so there's no real hurry. I find that the time of day that I write essays has absolutely no discernible effect on the grade they receive, so delaying is definitely the way to go.
Since I won't be writing this paper now anyway, let's switch off the hip hop bippedy bop and turn on something proper. I d/l-ed all the tracks from the Kill Bill soundtrack, it has some good stuff on it. Check it out, I say. Other music I particularly enjoy at the moment are !!! (odd name, odd music, good regardless), and as much Richard Cheese as I can find (thank you Cazza). The only problem is that my 2 gig hard drive is running out, 140 MB left... And I know that once I burn these cd's, I won't listen to the songs anymore. That's exactly what's happening to the 7 gigs of music I burned to CD before I got here, it is being horribly disregarded.
And now Suza is online! Time to disregard everything for as long as possible.
That was an excellent little chat. Mostly about the kitten she's picking out on Saturday. Now, I love cats. Cats are the best. Cats > Dogs. Both my cats died a few years ago, after that I've been cat-less. Which sucks, because I absolutely love the critters. So now, Suz is getting a kitten, which'll be fantastic. Finally, a new cat in my life!

Cats > Dogs.

I saw Kill Bill again this weekend, I recommend it to everyone. Alon informs me that it's out on November 20 in Holland, go see it (or rather, see it the week after that, once stufi's in). The soundtrack is pretty freakin' sweet too...
Dave made pictures of all the guys in our house as South Park characters. I edited mine a bit to have him holding a Grolsch bottle, and be wearing the Hell (o) shirt. Took me almost an hour, but I acquired some MS Paint skills. All hail MS Paint!
This weekend was very calm, I hung out most of my saturday and sunday, marvelling at the apocalyptic scene around us. Huge fires in San Bernardino meant a blood-red sun, yellow skies, and a light ash rain falling down. The smell of burning was everywhere. It's time for the fire to stop, though, since it's about to affect people I know...

Good times are had. Better times will be had. In, about 9 days! November 6 will be the best day of this year!

8:32 pm - How could I forget this?
Dutch director Richard Raaphorst is making a hardcore zombie-flick called 'WORST CASE SCENARIO' based on the book 'Woensdag Gehaktdag'.
The plot: The Dutch and The Germans have been hating each other since WW2, this hatred escalates and people want it fought out. The best way to do so, obviously, is to summon GERMAN NAZI ZOMBIES and DUTCH WHITE TRAILERTRASH ZOMBIES and let them have the ultimate faceoff. Coming out December 2004.

Aint It Cool News
and I got this bit from De Hollandse Film, but it's in Dutch, and I'm too lazy to translate:

December 2004, baby!

8:13 pm
Just came back from a speech by Ted Kennedy, senator for Massachusetts since 1962, brother of JFK. An hour-long story on the need to provide proper health care and education for the masses. Good stuff, though there were some points I had issues with. He was talking about "countries whose governments are our friends, but whose people hate us", giving examples such as Syria, and Egypt, and trying as hard as possible not to mention Saudi Arabia. Seriously, the US government is Saudi Arabia's bitch, trying ever so hard not to offend them, dead-scared as they are that oil prices will increase, or that the oil will stop flowing. Also, he claimed that he wanted Western Europe to pay more to use patented US medicine. Twice as much, actually. Mr Kennedy should realise that with a $500 billion trade deficit, one cannot afford a trade war with the second largest economic superpower. We don't want it, the US shouldn't want it either.
Anyway, it was nice to see someone that famous speak in such a small setting, only 300-350 people could get into the room, so it was a bit intimate still.

Besides that, I've been taking it easy this week. Been writing some essays, trying to get ahead of the workload so I can take 12 days off when Suz comes over (only 12 more days!). It's hard to work ahead when one procrastinates like me, and always does everything at the very last minute. But I'm trying, I still have almost 2 weeks, it can't be that hard...

I was talking to a guy who's in both Soccer Club and my Global Cultures class, Jacob, and he runs a small independent magazine back in England, where he normally studies. He wants to publish the next issue online, and is looking for extra people willing to write for him. He will accept any standpoint, as long as it is well argued. I've read the latest edition, and it's intelligent, creative, good stuff. The areas of interest are Politics, Philosophy, and the Creative Arts. Now, I know that the people that read this have interests that lie in these fields. Do you want to get published? Send me a piece, to my email, and I will get it in the next issue...

My unit had a Pot Party.
There were brownies.

We painted pots, and got flyers with information about the evil drug known as marijuana. I laughed, and the painted my pot in the colours of my wonderful country. The base was orange, the pot itself has a red-white-blue pattern. On the rim I wrote "Water me, YOU BASTARD!" as a helpful reminder. Mostly, I spent my time eating lots of brownies. It was fun.
I want to be back in Holland, just so I won't have to deal with stupid ambiguities like this! Pot party = getting high as fuck! not painting pots!

Had a balloon fight too. Not nearly as fulfilling as ninja balloon soccer.

Speaking of soccer, I'm still going to Soccer Club on a weekly basis. This week, I spent 45 minutes as goalie. Thankfully my defense was real good, and I only had to stop a couple of shots, which of course was a task I excelled at. Managed to block one ball with my belly, bouncing it right back into play.
It took them 45 minutes to figure out I didn't have any goalie skills, and that I was absolutely unprepared to put my body in the trajectory of their projectiles. Thankfully, my team realised this at the exact same time, and the next makeshift goalie showed up.

I'd write more but I can't recall any other significant occurences, and I do not wish to think too long. I have more interesting matters to attend to. Or maybe not. Anyway, I'm off. Don't forget to send me some articles!

Cheers, AJ

12:40 am - more good times
time to fill everyone in on my proceedings lately...

Went to Kill Bill on Saturday night with Dave and Melissa. We got there by 7-ish, but decided to take the late 11:20 showing, giving us ample time to get some good food and look around the Irvine Spectrum for a while. Basically, the Spectrum is this big fancy mall, consumption entertainment. I bought this great book called "45 RPM, A Visual History of the 7-Inch Record". It tells the story of the progression of artwork on 7-inch records from decade to decade, using a couple of pages of writing for each decade, but letting 230+ full-size 1:1 scale pictures of different sleeves do most of the talking. There's some great stuff in there.
I also got Hans something, something small, but which I know he'll appreciate. Lastly, we were in this high-tech store, getting foot and back massages from the special massage chairs they had, and another gadget they had was one of those automatic vacuum cleaners, the type that goes around the room independently, using sensors to orientate itself. It was real close to the exit, so a little bit of prodding and pushing on my side, and it went straight outside, determined on vacuuming the rest of the mall too...
Around 9:30 we finally entered the movie theatre, and we first caught a bit of a most god-awful horror movie, the House of the Dead. It was so unbelievably corny, so incredibly poorly acted and scripted, I couldn't help but laugh, especially when there was a scene which referred to Fellowship of the Ring's "Ringwraith trying to smell the Hobbits" part. It was atrocious, so freakin' bad.
Kill Bill started soon after that, though. Saw the Return of the King trailer again (so good), and the Matrix Revolutions trailer too, which revived much of my interest in that particular series.
The movie itself was genius, such a powerful display of vision and film-making ability. Everything was just so right, so geared to display Tarantino's idea on how the movie should look. From the different film styles (black/white, colour, anime), the use of Japanese for half the movie, the fact that virtually all the major stars were women (damn good fighters), and the ridiculously high body count (88 in one single scene) all killed by swords, and the enormous amount of blood shed and limbs cut off, everything put together made for such a powerful movie. I'm looking forward to Part 2 a lot.
Then, today, Six Flags: Magic Mountain.
We didn't get there till 2-ish, we took our time, it wasn't too bad since it was open until 10 anyway. We did all 6 major rollercoasters, nothing else, so I'll talk about my day using them as a guide.
X: Oh my fucking god. Unbelievable. Seriously unlike any other ride in the planet, because its chairs rotate along their horizontal axis. To give you an idea: you get in the ride (all the way up front, of course), and you're sitting backwards. You go up and up, and then when you get to the top, about to fall in a completely vertical drop, the chair flips forward, and you face straight down. You completely lose track of where you are, as not only is the track flipping and turning, but your chair is making additional backflips and frontflips. It feels like you're flying, so unbelievable. It cannot be compared to any other ride.
Riddler's Revenge: a standing rollercoaster, lots of corkscrews and sharp turns, with the twist that you're standing up. A lot of fun, though the 1.5 hour wait was hard, especially the last 45 minutes which were in a musty, poorly-lit room, with the same lame technobeat looping over and over and over again. It was the one part of the entire day that we couldn't read our books in line. We had all brought our readings for monday with us, to read in line. It worked very very well, we got all our stuff done. So many people came up to us and commented what a good idea it was.
Batman: Your basic dangly-legs rollercoaster, lots of sharp spiralling moves, twisting and turning in a very compact space. Good, solid fun.
Colossus: largest wooden rollercoaster this side of the Missisippi. Backwards. So much fun.
Goliath: 155-foot drop. 85 miles an hour. With only one of those stomach-bars to protect you. I was sitting all the way in the front with Hannie (Erik's girlfriend), and she's got her arms, ready to drop, and I'm gazing down, yelling to her "I don't see the track! There's no track" only to see it a second later, as we turned towards the ground even more sharply. I thought it'd be scary as hell, but sheer euphoria took over and it was amazing.
Scream: All three of us got to sit in front, since this one was 4-seats wide. A pretty simple rollercoaster, an incredibly smooth ride with many loopings and corkscrews, that felt really chill and excellent.
Viper: last of them all, this was a pretty good ride, helped a lot by the fact that there was no line whatsoever. 3 loopings and a bunch of corkscrews, it was good but a bit rough. Probably because it's a bit old...
The entire park was decorated for Halloween, lots of smoke machines everywhere, with people in horror costumes trying to scare the hell out of people. A particularly effective one was this guy with sparking skate wheels all over his body, racing past you very unexpectedly.

So, good times were had at Six Flags. Definitely the best rollercoaster theme park I've ever been to. I can't wait to go to Disneyland with Suza, that should be even better. Less of the rollercoasters, more of the great fun with Suz... A most excellent trade-off!

Good night, y'all. It's 12:38 here, so 9:38 in Holland. Suzanne woke up especially for me (she's so great), and I started writing this entry before she came online, so I've been kinda dividing my time chatting and typing, but I'd rather chat with the girl I love oh so amazingly much (17 more days!), so I bid adieu!

About to go to Six Flags. Can't wait for "X"...
I'll write a bigger update when I get back tonight, for now let me just say 2 things:

9:53 pm - something to share
I know this is kinda like kicking a cripple when he's down, but I just wanted to share with you some fragments of Limp Bizkit - "Results May Vary" album reviews:

- A journey into the head of Fred - a bit like 'John Malkovich' only there's more space.
- Eventually, 'Results May Vary' could become a fascinating document - a frightening insight into the vacuous state of 21st century culture. Students of the future will hopefully scratch their heads over its contents. Like another 'American Pie' sequel. Another shopping mall. Like a Nike trainer stamping on a human face forever.
- Finally, all the sessions and the turmoil was whittled down into one very long, very bad album called Results May Vary.
- in Fred Durst they have the worst frontman in the history of rock.
- a boneheaded cover of the Who's "Behind Blue Eyes," turning it into a Staind song with a Speak & Spell on the bridge ("B-I-Z-K-I-T. Say it") and adding insult to injury by misspelling Pete Townshend's name in the credits
- if you actually listen to the lyrics, the song loses any sort of credibility.
- This is so so crap.
- what if, with this noisy dross thrashing in my ears, I crossed the road obliviously and got hit by a Pickup truck and was killed? What if the last words I ever heard were Fred Durst growling "I want to sniff on them panties now"? What if, while searching for my identification, somebody opened my Sony Discman and discovered 'Results My Vary' on my person. What would they think of me? How literally mortifying.
- Durst’s stuck-hinge whinge just makes you want to turn your ears off. I mean, really, who gives a shit?
- Fred: If you think it sucks being you, as these songs seem to in too many words say, imagine what it's like having to listen to you.

I'm not quite sure why I started doing this, I think it began with the dotmusic.com review I was reading as a final desparate way to kill time.

Today was a pretty interesting day. Thanks to Hinze I now have enough knowledge to buy an upgrade for my computer here. 256 MB of RAM for something like 30 dollars. That should keep my computer running properly for a year or two...
I rocked my Global Cultures class, getting back my first 3 essays: A-, A, and A. Not too shabby, I'm hoping to keep it up for the next 7. I was also called mad by Suzanne, not too sure why, I think it's because I was going off on this whole tangent on how I wanted to leave a lasting mark on the world, to do something that matters. I guess I'll just have to drop any aspirations I have, quit Sociology and start studying Business Economics or something. I mean, seriously, I study Sociology! It's inevitable that I want to have an effect on society.
Even then, I don't think I'll ever rise up to meet my lofty expectations, I like to slack off, I don't want to be a strebertje (that would be a dutch word for one of those annoying work-hard do-gooders) and there are things I value far more than career advances and such. Still, I think it's important to have high expectations of oneself, because it's better to aim high and then miss your target, and you'll still end up higher than if you never tried at all.
Then again, I'm probably just a 19-year old with half-hearted day-dream intentions, all talk and nothing to show for it. A Master Dilletant. But I'm trying not to be like that anymore

EDIT: OH GOD! THE FORCES OF EMO HAVE ATTACKED AJ'S LIVEJOURNAL! SOMEBODY SAVE THIS BOY! DON'T LET HIM TURN HIS LJ INTO A JOURNAL OF TEENAGE ANGST!

11:54 pm - Go Strikers!
just earlier, I got out of Scarface, and I wanted to do some late-night shopping at Albertson's. They're on strike right now, it's quite a big thing, so it turns out they close at 10. The picketers, however, gave me a ride to the nearest supermarket, so I could do my shopping there, and then drove me all the way home! I wish they could keep striking forever and ever...
Scarface, of course, rocked. It was nice to see it on a big screen, in all its glory. Seriously, do I have to explain how great this movie is?
I had some good times over the last couple of days, didn't do too much, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I go to my classes and chill out a lot. All my classes are really starting to fuck with my mind, indoctrinating me with their Neo-Marxist beliefs. I disagree with parts of it, but the points are well made and they are really getting me to think.
Also, props to Alon and major congratulations on how everything is going in your life!
In a few days it's only 3 more weeks til Suzanne comes by, and it's a good thing too because I'm really really anxious to see her again. It's been freakin' ages by now, way too long...

Anyway, a Family Guy episode is playing on the TV on my left (the one with the black policemen on the beach, gumbledegumble or something...), so I'm outtie again.

7:02 pm - new fuses
fucking voltage convertors... now that i have music again, it's all good. let's just hope these fuses will last longer than five minutes.
Jayme informs me that my LJ is "about as ugly as it gets", that it's unreadable and yadayadayada. Well, let me publicly inform him that the orange and blue ar national dutch colours, and they're here to stay.
Anyway, I went to Venice Beach and Santa Monica yesterday, wide range of people hanging out over there, from bums to skeelering guitar players (with an amplifier in their backpack) to militant vegan liberals. We were looking for a Dutch bong shop (Erik for the bong, me for the Dutchies, seeing if I could haggle a bit off the price), but it was being renovated. Saw some cool shirts too ("Don't make me go Zelda on your ass" was one of my favs), but with 16 dollars in my pocket, and about a week to go til I have cash again, I decided to hold off, for now. However, the totally freakin' awesome shoes I'll be getting soon, which my lovely Suza bought for me, have inspired me to look for awesome shirts and pants and stuff. It's not a chick thing when it's handled in a calm and collected way. Beer before clothes!

I mean, it's liquid bread, how can you go wrong with liquid bread?

Anyway, we're BBQ-ing steak downstairs, and meat before almost everything, so I'm off again.

Have a good day, y'all

This song is so awesome... The Darkness plays great retro glam-rock, a genre which I despise, but they can make it sound like the best of fun.

Other good music I've heard lately:
All-Time Quarterback (Ben Gibbard's, singer for Death Cab For Cutie and Postal Service, first project), songs: Plans Get Complex, W hy I Cry
Black Heart Procession (reminiscent of Guster), songs: Tropics of Love, A Light So Dim
Black Sea (fugazi's bass player)
DNTEL (for Postal Service fans, check out "The Dream of Evan and Chad", the voice will probably be very familiar)
Quadrajets (rowdy punkrock)
The Sea and Cake (calm rock music)
The Weakerthans (Propagandhi's bass player with his own band), songs: Aside, Left and Leaving, Reconstruction Site
Thee Shallows (similar to Death Cab For Cutie)

A lot of these bands and songs can be found on www.epitonic.com, a free, no-registration music downloading service. A bit too indie for my tastes, but there's some really rather good stuff on there.

First entry!

Thanks to [info]fango and his good friend [info]swimartguy I now have access to the wonderful world of publicized rantings.
So here I am, bottle of Grolsch (tasting better than ever...) on my left, in front of my little laptop, Black Heart Procession playing (new location also means new music, so I've heard good new stuff that I'll be recommending to all y'all), letting my brainwaves reflect on the screen.
This'll be a short first post, I'm not gonna go into what I've been up to lately, here, stuck in irvine, it'll be too long. Instead, from this point on I'll mark down what's been going on on a day by day basis.
I'm lazy that way.
This "song of the moment" thing confuses me, should it be the song that was playing when I started, or the song I'm listening to now, or what? Damn, this LJ will give me headaches.
Anyway, this will be a short entry. Expect revelations and accusations with regards to Americans and Californians in general, Irvinites in particular.
Oh yeah, and don't ask me about that whole Arnold thing. That's just... (sighs, shakes head)

27 more days! I can't wait...
